In addition to these courses, a separate program under the same roof provides teacher training and professional development to Burmese teachers temporarily residing in Thailand.

Place: Chiang Mai [map] is a historical capital and a major regional center in northern Thailand. As such, it is populated by a variety of ethnic and national groups drawn to the manageable city for its economic and other opportunities. With universities, NGOs, markets and tourist activities attracting visitors from all over the world, Chiang Mai maintains a welcoming feel and climate. While VIA's training takes advantage of many of these facets, a long-term volunteer living in Chiang Mai will have numerous opportunities for cultural growth and exploration.
