CJ Huang Fellowship
The Dr. and Mrs. C.J. Huang Teaching Fellowship administered jointly
by VIA and the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford pays for two
Stanford graduates or recent alumni to teach at Ouyang Yu Experimental
Middle School, Xintang Town, Hunan. Dr. Huang founded this rural middle
school in an effort to raise the quality of education in his native province.
The Huang Fellowship is for one to two years and includes the following:
Travel: |
- Airfare from San Francisco to Thailand and Thailand to Shanghai
- Airfare from Shanghai to San Francisco at the end of the school
year
- Train fare from orientation in Nanjing to your post in Hunan
- Travel to and from VIA's annual Winter Conference
- Travel allowance for use in China

Other: |
- Cross-cultural and teacher training in California and Chiang
Mai, Thailand
- Orentation and language classes in Nanjing before going to your
post
- Monthly living stipend
- Home office and field support
- Language tutor
- Health/Emergency evacuation insurance
- Readjustment allowance at end of school year

Service Component: |
- Fellowship recipients receive $1000 to design and implement
a sustainable project or projects building community and serving
the school and/or community
