Exploring Health Care (EHC) Program Overview

Reflecting on health care from diverse viewpoints

VIA's Exploring Health Care program connects 30 students from top Japanese medical universities including Tokyo Medical, Tokyo Women’s Medical, Nihon, and Ehime Universities with peers from Stanford University and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Students spend the first week of the program at Stanford and the second week in San Francisco. Through organization visits and discussion, participants increase their understanding of the the U.S. health care system.

The next program is March 15 to 28, 2012. The calendar will be available in January. To learn about activities, view the 2011 calendar.

The goals of the program are for participants to:

  • Deepen their understanding of the U.S. health care and of current issues
  • Reflect upon and critically compare Japanese and U.S. medical education and health care systems
  • Increase their exposure to various professional motivations of medical students and professionals in the United States
