VIA's Medical Exchange and Discovery (MED) program brings together students from top medical schools in mainland China, Japan, and Taiwan to share challenges facing their home health care systems and possible solutions. Program activities include visits to hospitals, panel discussions with health care professionals, and 10 hours of medical English class.
Peers from Stanford University and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) serve as coordinators, and participants stay in a dormitory on Stanford campus.

The goals of the program are for participants to:

- Develop understanding and appreciation of the health care challenges in participants’ home areas
- Build medical English communication skills
Note: All medical school students are welcome to apply but preference will be given to those who are 3rd year or above. A more introductory program called Exploring Health Care (EHC) is available in the spring.
