Cambodia Program OverviewVIA’s newest program was started in 2009 to send volunteers to share their culture, perspectives, and English language skills with local Cambodian non-profit organizations. VIA’s program in Cambodia aims to increase local NGO capacity by supporting international fundraising proposals and ongoing project reporting in English. Our current partnerships are based in the capital city of Phnom Penh. ![]()
China Program OverviewVIA’s China program began in 1980 as one of the first foreign organizations to send American teachers to China after 1949. Since then, it has evolved to combine English teaching with volunteer work at grassroots NGOs focused on community development, health, and education. Volunteer posts are available in seven provinces, from urban areas in eastern and southern China to rural locations in central and western China. ![]()
Indonesia Program OverviewVIA builds on over forty years of experience in Indonesia. Our current program includes posts at environmental and community development NGOs as well as teaching English at Muslim boarding schools. Volunteers work to improve NGO staff English skills, design and implement community training modules, act as liaisons between staff and international funders, translating project reports and conducting research. Posts are available on both Java and Sumatra. ![]()
Myanmar Program OverviewPlease contact the VIA office for details on the Myanmar program Thailand Program OverviewVIA works with community development and anti-trafficking NGOs in Thailand to teach English to Burmese migrant workers and increase NGO capacity to fight human trafficking through grant proposal writing and reporting. Our current posts are in northern Thailand near the Burmese border. Vietnam Program OverviewVIA began sending volunteers to Vietnam in the early 1960s but paused its program during the Vietnam war. In 1990, five years prior to the resumption of formal relations between the governments of Vietnam and the U.S., VIA was invited to resume sending volunteers. In Vietnam, our volunteers teach English at universities or work at NGOs on anti-trafficking, environmental protection, or community development programs. VIA currently supports volunteers in the central coast city of Hue as well as several posts in the Mekong delta. ![]()
