Can Tho University, Can Tho, Vietnam

mariawrabel_square_instant Education: Stetson University, B.A., Global Development Studies

Reason for Joining VIA: I joined VIA to spend a year delving into full-time service to others, doing something I love to do: sharing my passion for the English language. As I want to pursue a career in international affairs, I wanted to get started by immersing myself in a new culture and learning a new language!

Previous Experience: Taught English to immigrant farmworkers, tutored at Stetson's Writing Center

Goals For The Year: I'm looking forward to experiencing a different way of life: new sights, new people, and new food! I'm also excited to build relationships with my students and hear their stories.

Reason for Joining VIA: When I read VIA's mission statement and learned about what their volunteers do abroad, I felt a strong desire to participate. I was looking for an established program where I can put my college degree towards helping others. VIA was also extremely attractive to me because of the variety of tracks I can pursue in researching or participating in.

Future Career Goals: My professional career goal is to become a Foreign Service Officer for the U.S. government working in the Public Diplomacy track
