Saturday, August 19

8 AM – 4 PM ~ Peninsula Habitat for Humanity

Assisting in the construction of a house for a low-income family; Provides students with a hands-on opportunity to see the tangible result of their work as part of an international effort to end poverty housing

Afterwards, we head to our hostel in San Francisco- in the Tenderloin District, where we will remain for the rest of Project Week.

Sunday, August 20

1:30 PM~ Precita Eyes Murals:

10-block walking tour of 60 murals depicting cultural identification of various immigrant groups

Dinner at DeLancey Street Restaurant: Staffed by previously unhoused individuals, extension of one of most successful halfway-house rehabililtation programs. Chat over meal about the ideology behind the restaurant and routes to empowerment.

 

Monday, August 21

9 AM – 2 PM ~ St. Anthony Foundation

Help serve the daily meal to homeless people in the St. Anthony Dining Room; Allows students to personally get to know homeless people and to begin to understand them and their struggles

9 AM – 2 PM ~ St. Anthony Foundation

Wednesday, August 23

9 AM – 11 AM ~ Cruisin’ Castro Tour:

Exploring the “world’s largest gay mecca”

Afternoon ~ Queer Cultural Center:

Studying the artistic expression of queer identity issues

Thursday, August 24

2 PM – 4 PM ~ API Wellness Center:

Tour of an agency that educates and advocates for the Asian and Pacific Islander communities, particularly pertaining to sexual health and immigrant populations
