Environment Service Project Week ItineraryAugust 13-14th Santa Cruz We will spend these two days in a state park in the Santa Cruz mountains. During this time we will work with the Wildlands Restoration Team on a habitat restoration project, go on fun hikes, and learn more about wilderness restoration and the state park system. August 15th-16th Monterey We will explore beautiful Monterey and learn more about development issues at Cannery Row from Michael McCormick (formerly on the city’s planning commission, currently working with Pacific Municipal Consulting) and Barbara Evans (a community activist). Other possibilities will include visiting the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, going kayaking, speaking with researchers from the Hopkins Marine Station, and spending an afternoon exploring Carmel. August 17th San Francisco We will visit the San Francisco Eco-Center and hear speakers about the city government’s role in recycling, toxic reduction, green building, energy, clean air, urban forest, and environmental justice. We will also tour a recycling facility and visit their recycled art sculpture garden. August 18th-19th: East Bay Area We will tour the Salt Ponds Restoration Project and help out with our own restoration project at the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. We will also have the opportunity to visit a landfill, and see an oil refinery. Other possibilities include hearing speakers from Asian Pacific Environmental Network, and working in community gardens to help preserve green space.
